IP Ratings IEC 60529: Engineering Plastic Enclosures for Ingress Protection

At SRT Plastics, we translate the technical requirements of IEC 60529 (Ingress Protection) into practical engineering solutions for industrial housings and assemblies. An IP rating defines the effectiveness of an enclosure in sealing against the intrusion of solid objects and moisture. While the first digit classifies protection against solids (0-6), the second classifies liquid ingress (0-9), including high-pressure jet tests like IPX9 and IP69K. We specialize in the precision fabrication of transparent windows, doors, and HPL mounting plates specifically designed to help your assembly achieve its target IP rating. By providing high-tolerance CNC machining and material expertise, we ensure your components support environmental sealing and meet the rigorous certification requirements for machine building and electrical engineering.

Practical Engineering for Ingress Protection & Sealing

Achieving a specific IP rating requires a holistic approach to enclosure geometry, material selection, and sealing integrity. Whether your project demands dust-tight performance or resistance to high-pressure cleaning, our fabrication services are optimized to support these technical goals. Explore our guide to understanding IP codes and the design choices that determine a successful test result.

Two Digits For Solids And Water

The first IP digit covers solids from zero to six. The second covers water from zero to nine. X simply means not evaluated. Example IP67 is dust tight and protected against temporary immersion. For road vehicles you may see IP69K while the IEC jet test is IPX9.

    Seals Joints Fasteners And Penetrations

Passing IP depends on the complete enclosure. Use continuous gaskets with suitable hardness and compression. Keep joints clean and avoid capillary paths around fasteners. Select panel thickness and support to hold gasket squeeze across temperature changes. Treat cable entries as critical points and use rated glands.

Share drawings and we will flag risks before you build the prototype.

H4 PC PMMA HPL And FR Blends

Polycarbonate offers high impact and good machinability for windows and doors. PMMA gives high clarity where impact is moderate. HPL provides stiff mounting plates and spacers. FR ABS and PC ABS suit opaque covers where flame behavior also matters. We cut to size machine and finish parts and supply a Certificate of Conformity. Supplier test reports are available where applicable.
