UV Transmitting Acrylic (UVT)

SRT UV-Transmitting Acrylic Sheet (PMMA-UVT)

High UV Permeability with Optical Clarity

Maximize UV efficiency with SRT UV-Transmitting Acrylic (PMMA-UVT). While standard acrylic naturally filters out UV radiation, this specialized extruded sheet is engineered to allow the transmission of ultraviolet rays. It combines the high impact strength and pristine clarity of standard PMMA with superior UV permeability, making it the essential choice for sunbeds, solariums, and reptile terrariums. It offers excellent mechanical stability and is resistant to the degradation often caused by prolonged UV exposure.

UV Transmitting Acrylic (UVT)

Engineered for UV Transmission

Most transparent plastics are designed to block UV radiation to protect the material and the people behind it. SRT PMMA-UVT is the exception. It is formulated specifically to be permeable to ultraviolet rays while maintaining the structural integrity and safety features of a rigid plastic sheet. This makes it the industry standard for applications requiring controlled UV exposure.

UV Transmittance & Optical Properties

SRT PMMA-UVT offers a light transmission of 92% (visible spectrum), identical to standard acrylic. However, its specialized formulation allows for high transmittance in the UV-A and UV-B spectrums (280–400 nm), which are critical for tanning equipment and biological applications (such as reptile habitats). The material resists the "yellowing" effect often seen in lesser plastics exposed to intense UV radiation.

Mechanical Strength & Safety

Safety is paramount in solarium and terrarium applications. SRT PMMA-UVT is significantly stronger than glass, reducing the risk of breakage in environments where users or animals are in close proximity to the sheet. With a tensile strength of 76 MPa, it provides a robust, shatter-resistant barrier that is easy to clean and maintain.

Processing & Fabrication

Despite its specialized properties, SRT PMMA-UVT processes just like standard extruded acrylic. It can be thermoformed into curved sunbed canopies or line bent for custom terrarium covers. It can be laser cut, drilled, and polished without affecting its UV-transmitting capabilities.

Practical Applications

Essential for specialized biological environments such as reptile terrariums and zoo enclosures. Unlike standard glass which blocks vital UV-B rays, this sheet allows full spectrum transmission, ensuring animals can synthesize Vitamin D3 naturally while remaining safely contained behind a clear, shatter-resistant barrier.
