Replacement of Aging Glazing with a Modern, Heat-Resistant Solution for Increased Light Transmission and Improved Insulation
The original opal-white, double-layer polycarbonate glazing of a 100 x 16 meter light street was replaced with a new, triple-layer transparent heat-resistant version. The glazing was mounted into prefabricated cassettes, which were installed at night to avoid disruptions, as the shopping center remained open during the day. A lightweight gantry crane, supported and driven over the adjacent gently sloping roofs, made the installation of the light street significantly easier.
Centre Commercial Atlantis St. Herblain, a hypermarket in Nantes, France, features a large central light street that illuminates the multi-level shopping gallery. The original plastic glazing was approximately 15 years old and no longer offered the desired luxury appearance. Additionally, it no longer met modern standards for insulation and fire safety. Moreover, the bottom layer of the old double-layer system was translucent, obstructing the view of a clear sky, which was another reason for the renovation.
General contractor Apollo France Diffusion from Saint Sébastien-sur-Loire assigned the Dutch company Apollo-Benelux from Zevenbergschen Hoek to execute this renovation. In close collaboration with SRT Plastics from Bergen op Zoom, which developed and supplied the polycarbonate sheets, the cassettes were prefabricated in the factory and installed on-site during the nighttime hours.
